Meeting of the Delegation to the EU-Azerbaijan, EU-Armenia and EU-Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in order to discuss the European Union – Azerbaijan relations
On January 20, 2015 the meeting of the Delegation to the EU-Azerbaijan, EU-Armenia and EU-Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in order to discuss the European Union – Azerbaijan relations.
H.E.Mr. Fuad Isgandarov, head of the Mission to the EU and Mr. Asim Mollazade, member of the Azerbaijani Parliament attended the meeting.
Chair of the Delegation, MEP from Great Britain, Mr. Sajjad Karim expressed his condolences on the tragic events perpetrated by the Soviet army 25 years ago in Baku and thanked Ambassador for taking part in this meeting on the national mourning day of Azerbaijan.
Ambassador in his turn thanked Mr. Sajjad Karim for his condolence messages. Then Ambassador briefed participants of the meeting about the latest developments in the EU – Azerbaijan relations, achievements, lacking points and expectations of Azerbaijan from these relations.
Mr. Asim Mollazade talked about the existing conflicts and the problems deriving from them in Azerbaijan and in the Eastern Partnership region and urged the EU to be more involved in the resolution process of these conflicts. He stressed that the importance of Azerbaijan for the EU increases as the Azerbaijan emerges both as transport hub and an important energy partner.
MEPs attending the meeting made speeches praising the position held by Azerbaijan in the EU – Azerbaijan relations and stressed strategic character of these relations.
